Problem Solver

Being a problem solver to me means being dedicated to work at something until they obtain answer. You won’t give up easily and you are very determined. Some ways that I have been a problem solver is than in my algebra 1 class me and my teacher Mr. Jackson would have talks about philosophical math questions. On day I asked him what would happen if zero would be divided into a number. We had this long conversation on what would happen and what were the possibilities. Long story short we came to a conclusion that zero can be divided infinitely amount of times into nothing. It may not make since but I got my answer and I solved my question. Another way I was a problem solver was that during my first year of auto shop we learning about the engine and the oils that went in it. Our teacher said that if we didn’t have enough of a certain oil then the car wouldn’t start but I didn’t listen to him. Later on in my group we were fixing the engine and had to replace the oil. I was in charge and I ended up putting too much. My group didn’t know and we had to figure out why the car didn’t start. We check if the battery was dead, if the spark plugs were working and even the pistons. After ten’s of minutes of work we finally found out I put too much oil and we had to drain the engine. Lastly if you want to be a problem solver you must stay committed to answering you question and finding the solution.

Civic Responsability

My civic responsibility’s should be to help out my community, my friends and family and most important my self and my education. I feel that my community should be helped out because they’ve helped me out from internships for my community service to just getting part time jobs. I owe it to them to at least try and support what ever it is that they are doing. Some ways that I would help out my community would be to go to schools and volunteer at after school programs and play with the little kids (not in that way). I would go to homeless shelters and feed them for free.
I feel that I should help out friends and family because through out my whole life here at San Diego high school I have had a lot of help and I wouldn’t have accomplished anything if it was for them. They deserve it. Some ways that I would help my friends and family would be that I would baby sit there children if they needed it. I would help them around there houses, clean up or something.
Lastly how I would help my self is that I would get a good education and I would get grants and scholarships to prepare me to go to city collage and get my associates degree in sound engineering. I will get a good paying job to support my self. Civic duties aren’t something that you have to do but it something that is a nice thing to do and knowing that you did something that helped some one out is a great feeling.

Technology Producer

A technology producer is some one that knows how to use a computer. They can use almost any program given to them and they can use it to an intermediate level. I have been a technology producer all my four years here at SciTech. Each year I’ve been here I've either had some sort of computer apps class or a website and script class. I know how to make websites, use Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks, and PowerPoint, excel and anything in between. I've learned extensively on websites the most. I know the simple things from and ordinary header tag to something a little more complicated like a script tag which allows you to inset different languages or something like that I haven’t really looked into it.
I used this skill in many of my classes. The class I used it the most would have had to have been my website design class of my junior year and again in my senior year. I've made at least two websites, five flash animations, lots of photo shopped pictures’ a couple of animations and pictures on dream weaver an a lot more.
I've also used this skill in my band. I’m in the making of my bands website and also using Photoshop to make my demo album cover.
Lastly to be a technology producer you need to know the technology that you’re working with. If it’s with a computer or even your cell phone to post blogs. You must understand what you’re using.

Effective Communicator

In order to be an effective communicator you have to know how to communicate between different sorts of people and understand what they mean. It’s one thing to just listen to some one and have it in your brain but if you can reply back to them intelligently and efficiently then that is being an effective communicator. In some ways that I have been an effective communicator was during my peer counseling class and we did this activity call forced choice. In that activity we were giving a statement and had to decide if we agreed with the statement or disagreed. When we decided we would take a side of the room we would state our reason on why we chose the side and then the opposite side would argue with them. The point of this activity was to see how effectively we could listen and communicate to the other side and try and convince them to switch sides.
Listening is also a big importance to being an effective communicator because you can’t communicate with the person unless you know what there saying. I’ve done this by listening to people in my fourth period class on how they don’t know how to make a web page. So I listen to there concerns then I effectively communicate with them on how they can fixe there problems.
Being an effective communicator is a hard task to do. You have to have an ear to listen and a mind to speak from. Also you can’t just talk with out thinking.

Responsible Learner

Being a responsible learner is someone who cares vitally on what there being taught. There are people who get great grades in school but there not really taking in the knowledge that they receive and that’s just doing something half way. But those who actually use the knowledge that is taught, that’s a responsible learner. Some ways that I have been a responsible learner is that during my C.S.S class last semester I had to do many projects but I also I wanted to do something that would benefit me in the long run. So I decided to make a power point and a video on how to record your guitar on the computer.
Another way was that there was a science convention called the AAAS (Annual meeting and the San Diego convention center for future advancements in science) and I went around each booth with my friend getting interviews on video and took a lot of notes on what they were presenting for example, there was this company from Japan that was making alternative fuel. They made these Pokémon toys move by a battery that took in old cells and converted them into new cells without any harm to the environment. Also another booth explained how plants grow. They gave me and my friend a seed and since then mine has grown exponentially.
When people ask me how I’m a responsible learner I tell them that I put time and effort into my work. I try my best when I can and if I do badly I redo it until its better.

Collaborative Worker

During my high school years here at SciTech, I have been a very successfully collaborative worker. I have had the class peer education which helped me very much in team work. I had to do group projects which required me to work with other people in order to make students aware of STD’s, drunk driving, and bullying. Doing these presentations helped me be a better group member, leader and presenter. In order to put these presentations together I had to listen to the team leader give me orders on what to do and I had to cooperate with other team members.
Another example of me being a very good collaborative worker is while in my website design class. In that class I am considered a student helper. I help students with their websites if they need so. I help them with such programs as Dream Weaver, Photoshop, Adobe Flash and Fireworks. Instead of being quiet and just sit there and I either go on my own or do my work in other classes, I help anyone who needs it; even if the help is something as simple as adding a “
tag” on their website I help them.
Being a collaborative worker is an important skill everyone should obtain. Ever since I started high school, I have been able to get out of my shell. I thought I would always be quiet and work by myself but instead, thanks to the classes and group projects, I was able to stop working alone and work with different groups; it wasn’t that big of a hassle either.
